Adventurous Activities

Dearne Adventure is the name of the adventurous activities programme offered to students and staff at the Dearne ALC. It encompasses the highest quality of adventurous activity to develop the Dearne ALC’s core community, creating a rich curriculum that builds on the interests and motivations of all students and staff. At its heart, Dearne Adventure offers challenge, reward and personal development that is designed to be wide reaching and inclusive.

Benefits of adventure

As Dearne Adventure develops, we aim to offer something for every student in the school, which will support their development in self-belief and confidence, identity within our community, independence, sense of social and personal responsibility, understanding of strengths and weaknesses, time management, providing for others and transferrable skills such as problem solving, communication and teamwork.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The flagship offering of Dearne Adventure is the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, which is aimed at students in Y9 and Y10. The Award starts at the Bronze level, which will be offered from October 2016. Students will complete four sections, including: Skill (pursuit of a hobby or interest); Service (supporting our community); Physical (sports, dance and fitness); and the chance to participate in a potentially life-changing expedition (on foot, cycle, horseback, or water).
